Got Them bastards Chapter Four Condensed due to laziness
To make a long drawn out story a little shorter, I'll give you the basics of what happened next. Those two stumbling retards eventually made it back to camp, alive, and without getting involved with the gnolls. The hungry griffon hatchlings were looking for food, so we fed Glug's horse to them. The next day I flew up and did a recon of the gnolls. They were packing up and heading out. We decided that I would take the hatchlings back to Inder to leave with Chargoth, then packed up some spare food and arrows before chasing gnolls.I went back to town dropped off the birds, picked up the supplies, then headed back to meet Tweedle Midget and Tweedle Dumb-Ass-Ugly. They, in the mean time, had headed over to the now empty gnoll camp to check things out. Of course two morons like them figured out nothing. I got back late in the day, then we began to follow their trail. From this point it turned into a drawn out chase, where we tried to follow the gnollswithout being seen, and without losing their trail. Apparently they had some skilled rangers in their midst, for the were fairly successful in covering their tracks. Many days of walking aerial scouting, and putting up with snow and rain got us to the point where we were just hours behind them. By this time the gnolls had forgotten about us, were not concerned with the trail they left, and had crossed a mountain into a valley. This could be their home we thought. Deciding that we were close enough, we stopped tailing them, and I went up with Screech on snowy day to see where the dog faced bastards were headed. I found a small keep with some outbuildings and farms. In the cover of the snow fall, I believe my presence was unnoticed. After getting this information, we circled around the other side of the mountain to approach from a different direction than the trail the gnolls had been on. A day later, and we intercepted three gnolls heading our way. After capturing and killing two in battle, we learned that this was indeed home, and the leaders lived in the keep, while most of the other gnolls were returning to their bitches and litter after a long summer of raiding, pillaging, raping, murdering, and plundering. I found the captured gnoll guilty of the above offenses and executed him. We decided that the leaders of the gnolls deserved the same punishment, so we headed over to the keep in the middle of the night. Glug and I snuck up the side of the keep, while Bud and Screech waited in a nearby copse of trees. Glug and I found and dispatched two guards that had been on the roof. They were local kids, not even part of the raiding party. This is where things went wrong. The kids did get off a shout of alarm before we were able to subdue them. Upon hearing any alarm Bud was to jump on Screeches back and fly to the top of the keep. Unfortanately Screech arrived quickly, but without the short little bearded bastard. Glug and I proceeded down the stairs into the keep, we could hear the inhabitants preparing for attack. We decided to attack now rather than wait for Bud and give the defenders opportunity to put on armor. Glug and I burst through the door to be confronted by four gnolls, all armed, none with armor though. We saw the gnolls with glaive, mattock, staff, and shortsword and shield. Glug battled one at the doorway, the gnoll with the mattock, while I stood on the stairs unable to enter. Glug's opponent fell and he was able to enter the room. Glaive tried to block the doorway with a table, and Glug fought with the shortsword and shield wielding gnoll. I climbed over the table and engaged Glaive. Staff was in the background, blocked from entering combat by the cramped conditions. I wasn't fareing too well, as glaive was doing some serious damage to me. Staff dragged out his downed companion, mattock, in the meantime. About this time I was close to losing consciuosness, so I played dead, and hoped that Bud would get here soon, in the meantime, maybe I could get a sneak attack. Glug was finishing off the shortsword dude, and turned his attention to glaive. Glaive was sorely wouded from me, and Glug from the shortsword wielder. Staff dragged out shortswords body, and prepared to enter combat, when glaive fell. Both Glug and I were near death at this time, and staff was as fresh as a spring daisy. I climbed to my feet, and both Glug and I faced staff. He advanced on us just as I heard a clatter on the stairs behind me. Glug engaged staff, and Bud burst through the door. Finally! Staff's face sagged at the sight of the dwarf, he turned tail and jumped in a room and slammed the door, Bud quickly knocked the door open and began chopping staff gnoll into pieces. Glug and I did nothing to help Bud, it wasn't necessary. When staff was dead, we searched the lower level of the keep and found it empty, it was made up of a common room, a kitchen, and firewood. Oh, there were also seven dead gnoll bodies resting on the tables, very peculiar. We went back upstairs, collected items worth noting, including the glaive which was much finer than mine, a cloak that magically blended with its surroundings, and some other junk. We then went down below, and started the biggest fire we could out of the stored firewood. We then left from the roof, and went to the nearby barn in hopes of finding the other two griffon chicks. Unfortunately the inhabitants were awake and defending the building. We decided not to attack in our present condition. We turned tail and ran. We went back to our camp and slept the rest of the night, Bud stood watch. The next morning we decided it was time to get while the getting was good, screw the last two griffon, three were enough. With that we went back to Inder as quickly as we could. Glug had been able to heal us, so the trip back was never too dangerous. All in all I don't think those damn gnolls will be out raiding again next summer.
